The Nokia 2690 is a quad-band GSM candy bar phone, the Nokia 2690 packs a crisp 1.8-inch TFT display,MP3 & video players and GPRS with the in-built web browser. Nokia tagged the Nokia 2690 as a low budget handset, however, it's one of the few phones that feels underpriced for the features on offer. The handset comes with couple of features that are usually found in mid-range phones including the Ovi Mail support, in-built Opera mini browser and a 8 GB expandable memory.

The 2690 supports email through Ovi Mail, Nokia aims to help people in developing countries to gain their first digital identity directly from their handsets. The Ovi Mail accounts can be created in the phone. It allows people to start sending and receiving the mail directly from the phone without the need for a PC.

Nokia has added a nice metallic strip to the 2690's NavyKey that allows for easier navigation. The phone outclasses most other low budget phones when it comes to design & aesthetics. The 1.8-inch TFT display supports 262K colours at 128 x 160-pixel resolution, allows for some good contrasts and colour tones. Nokia has also improved the sunlight eligibility factor on the Nokia 2690 display compared to other phones in the same budget bracket.

The battery life on the Nokia 2690 is pretty impressive. The Li-Ion battery gives up to 270 minutes of talk time and a standby time of 335 hours. The phone comes with GPRS and EDGE connectivity. The 2690 is one of the few budget phones to have a contact list capacity of over 2000 entries.

It comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack, so you can use your favourite set of headphones with it. It features Bluetooth version 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate. It supports microSD card up to 8 GB. The handset comes with a VGA camera, featuring self-timer & sequence mode . The 2690 lacks a dedicated camera key and hence user will have to use the Navi Key as shutter. The additional settings for camera include white balance and few other effects.

The 2690 also comes with some useful applications like Alarm clock, Notes, To-do lists, Stopwatch & Calendar. The phone menu is fairly customizable and allows you to set any MP3, MIDI or AAC file as a ringtone and also change the fonts. The handset also features a handy 3.5 mm AV connector, that allows you to transfer data and watch video files on the handset over the TV and other visual devices.
